Meet Our Team

I am Sue Matson, the coordinator of the ALC Balm of Gilead. I am a mom of 11 children and have experienced the sorrows and joys of motherhood. I have seen the struggles our young experience through this walk of life...social media, instant access to just about anything on cell phones, etc. I have counseled and supported many through abuse and the emotion that comes with it. God has laid a compassion in my heart to work in this field. It is my desire to help all those affected by abuse and to teach and share His promises. There is a way to peace and forgiveness. All glory to God and the finished work on the cross!

Driven by a deep calling to serve God in Women's Ministry, I blend theological training with a solid foundation in organizational leadership. I studied Business Administration at Northern Michigan University and earned my Deaconess Certificate from Inter-Lutheran Theological Seminary. Since 2012, I have been an active leader with the Balm of Gilead, where I presently serve as Researcher and Educator after previously holding the position of Coordinator.

Listening to people and offering perspective and encouragement from God's Word has been my heart's desire for ministry through the Balm of Gilead.

This journey began when a friend courageously shared her story of sexual abuse with me.  Others followed sharing their stories and it became clear that there was a need for compassionate, Christ-centered support.  With the blessing of our ALCA Central Board, a few of us began the Balm of Gilead ministry.

Prior to this, for 12 years I served as a leader and small group facilitator at Where Grace Abounds, a Denver, CO ministry.  There, I had the privilege of walking with others as we sought God’s design for our lives, sexuality, and relationships.

In 2008, I married and moved to Washington.  As a Team Member at the Balm of Gilead, I serve as an educator, presenter and resource for individuals and families navigating a variety of sexual issues.
